Testosterone Deficiency (Andropause)

Beginning in the fourth decade of life, declining androgens (male hormones) and imbalances of related hormones bring on the symptoms of aging in males referred to as "andropause", the equivalent of menopause in women. Declining testosterone levels can be linked to low sex drive, rapid aging and poor quality of life.

Other symptoms of male hormone imbalance include:

  • Bone loss
  • Decreased mental clarity
  • Decreased muscle strength
  • Decreased stamina
  • Decreased urine flow
  • Depression
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Increased abdominal fat
  • Irritability
  • Low sex drive
  • Mood swings
  • Poor concentration
  • Sleep disturbances

In addition to the testosterone imbalance symptoms listed above, men can also experience symptoms of thyroid and adrenal (cortisol) dysfunction.

Male hormone testing is important for:

  • Detection of undiagnosed hormone imbalances related to symptoms of male andropause, rapid aging, low vitality, sexual dysfunction and prostate health.
  • Early detection of hormone imbalance aids treatment to restore balance, healthy aging and prostate disease prevention.
  • Identification of hormonal excesses and deficiencies.
  • Interpretation of hormone levels in concert with symptoms to provide more diagnostic clues.
  • Monitoring prescribed hormonal therapy.
  • Facilitating safe, appropriate prescribing and adjustment of hormone therapy.
