29 Dec Don’t Let Arthritis Slow You Down – Part 2
Last month we began our discussion about ways to combat arthritis, the number one cause of disability in America. We have already covered: 1) achieving and maintaining a healthy weight, 2) eating an anti-inflammatory diet and 3) staying active. The final steps involve supplements that can decrease pain and inflammation which make arthritis debilitating:
1) Ginger and turmeric. The curcumin component in turmeric has been shown to be a very potent anti-inflammatory. Ginger has been shown to inhibit many inflammatory markers such as cytokines and chemokines.
2) Glucosamine and chondroitin with MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane). This combination of anti-inflammatory supplements has been compared head to head against ibuprofen and shows similar relief at 3-month evaluation.
3) Proteolytic enzymes. Inflammation is closely linked to gut health. Anything that can improve gut health will consequently lead to improvements in pain and inflammation. Proteolytic enzymes, specifically papain and bromelain, have been shown to provide improvements in mobility in rheumatoid and osteoarthritic patients.
Try our Joint Health Support for a healthy dose of bromelain, as well as ginger, turmeric, glucosamine and chondroitin.
